The trustees of the Tile Contractors Association of Hawaii wrote a letter to the Masons Union Local 1/Local 630 in July 2009 asking for some type of concession for our signatory members during these difficult economic times.  We received a rejection from the union.

In May 2010, the Tile Contractors Association of Hawaii initiated a meeting with the trustees from the Mason Contractors Association of Hawaii and the Hawaii Wall and Ceiling Industry Association. We sent a letter to the union in early June 2010 as a unified team and received a rejection letter again on June 22nd.

Rather than do nothing, we sent another letter on July 1st asking for an informal meeting because we received no explanation as to why they were not willing to meet with us or provide any type of concession. 

On July 29, 2010, representatives from the above mentioned associations met with the union representatives.

On August 12, 2010, we received a response letter whereby the union will be suspending the Research and Development Fund contribution by twenty five (.25) cents for two years. The membership of Local #1 did take a vote and it was approved.
